In the early 1980’s I started my long and loved career in the fashion and textiles industry. My Mum always made my clothes for me as a child, with Mum’s help and talent I started making my own clothes, including my own school uniform! So, it’s not surprising my passion for sewing started from an early age! It was here that I realised this was all I wanted to do.
After leaving school I traveled to Paris to complete my foundation course in fashion at ‘The Paris Academy’. After that I completed my formal training in textiles with a ‘Higher Certificate in Fashion’ at Croydon College of Art and Design. Leading to a career in textiles manufacturing clothing for popular online and High Street Retailers.
From then until now, I have worked for manufacturing companies in London as a sample machinist. This would involve cutting and sewing a variety of fabrics into high standard garments from start to finish. The companies I worked for provided high fashion ladies clothing from skirts, trousers, blouses, jersey garments, tailoring to childrenswear and prom dresses. These garments were manufactured for famous High Street names including River Island, Principles, Top Shop, Mothercare, E.W.M, New Look, Debenhams, J.D Williams, Sainsburys and Tesco.
I have recently moved to Keynsham to be closer to family and I’m excited to start my own business, By Catherine. Please get in touch to discuss any alterations and repairs you might need for your garments.
